Artist Highlight: OhHappyDayCreations

~ ~
Today, I would like to introduce to you Theresa, the creator of all things lovely at OhHappyDayCreations. I'm highlighting her skills as a paper crafter, pomander ball maker, and so much else. Introducing.... (drumroll please)... Theresa!

1. Tell us more about yourself? What do you do outside of Etsy-ing?
I am a registered nurse and am currently working on my Masters. Nursing was a second degree for me, my first was in sociology. I find societal groups and trends to be very interesting and I enjoyed learning about them in college. But, I found that I was more drawn to helping people on a smaller scale: one on one. Everyday in the hospital is a challenge and no two days are ever the same.

I love my husband, family and my two dogs. I like spending quiet time at home, the middle seasons: fall and spring, and rainy days.

2. If you were an animal, what would you be? Why?
I wouldn’t be an animal. I would be a butterfly. They are pretty, they are able to visit plants and trees. I also like their transformation process; there’s something hopeful about them. I have always liked this quote: “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”

3. What inspires you?
Nature, the happiness of weddings, bright colors (my bridesmaid’s dresses were mandarin orange ). I like the idea that each item I make is unique and special in its own way. Even if I make something that is similar for different people, each one gets its own attention: the way I lay the stamp down or press the ink, its always different—that inspires me, that each handmade item is different from the rest and special in its own way.

4. How did you get started in your paper-crafting?
I always liked to make things, even from a young age. I would make things and try to sell things to my family at mini-craft fairs at our kitchen table. I could never draw though. So, at first, I was intimidated by art and took a different path. When I got engaged, I started to make things for our wedding and it became an escape from the stresses of work, school and planning the wedding. After the wedding, I made things for a few friends who were getting married. I have since started making cards, too. Everyday, I feel like I have a new idea and cannot wait to make something new. I look forward to my craft time.

5. What's your favorite artist, website/blog, music, and writer?
I like all different kinds of music. One of my all time favorites I think is Ani DiFranco. Lately though, I’ve been listening to the Killer’s newest album, Day & Age. One of my favorite things to do after work is to watch reruns of the original 90210. Music and movies from the 80s hold a very special place in my heart. I also like to look at wedding photographers blogs because I like to see the pretty things that others have done at their weddings.
What is your motto or favorite quote?
See number 2.
